College Football Week 5 Picks/Predictions

After another exciting week of college football, we head into week 5 where conference match-ups heat up, and we start to find out who's a contender and who's a pretender.  Here are my week 5 college football picks/predictions:

Lines via Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook

_________________________________________________________________________________
#7 Stanford (3-0) at #10 Washington (4-0) (9:00 PM ET, on ESPN, in Seattle, Washington) FRIDAY
                                                                  UPSET

Line is set at: #10 Washington (-3)

My pick: #7 Stanford defeats #10 Washington 33-28

What to watch for: Stanford's offense.  The Cardinal's offense vs UCLA was not very good, but they, with the help of the defense and special teams found a way to pull it out.  But I think if they want to beat the Huskies on the road, they'll have to play much better, and I see them doing in a close win.

My thoughts on this game: This is one of the best games of the week on paper, and I think it will be on the field also.  Washington and Stanford are both good teams, but Stanford has been tested more this season, and they have been in bigger games in recent history more than Washington has, so I think the Cardinal will come out more prepared en route to a very tight win.

_________________________________________________________________________________
#11 Tennessee (4-0) at #25 Georgia (3-1) (3:30 PM ET, on CBS, in Athens, Georgia)

Line is set at: #11 Tennessee (-3)

My pick: #11 Tennessee defeats #25 Georgia 30-17

What to watch for: Tennessee's defense.  The Vols defense has talent, and they showed it in the second half vs Florida in their 38-28 win, but they'll probably prefer a complete game of defense both in the first half and second, and I think they'll accomplish that.

My thoughts on this game: Tennessee comes into this game with a lot of confidence considering they have broken Florida's 11 game win streak against them, and Georgia is just the opposite.  The Bulldogs come in with a lack of confidence because they just got crushed by Ole Miss 45-14, and I think with Tennessee's confidence (which is just one of multiple reasons), they'll notch another top 25 victory.

_________________________________________________________________________________
#8 Wisconsin (4-0) at #4 Michigan (4-0) (3:30 PM ET, on ABC, in Ann Arbor, Michigan)

Line is set at: #4 Michigan (-10.5)

My pick: #4 Michigan defeats #8 Wisconsin 24-16

What to watch for: Michigan's defense.  The Wolverines defense has played great in the first four games of the season, but they will face a much tougher test vs #8 Wisconsin, and I think even though it will be a tight game, I think that the Wolverines' defense will show up, and play well in a good win over the #8 Badgers.

My thoughts on this game: This is a huge game nationally, and also in the BIG-10, so both of these teams are going to come out prepared and ready, but I see the Wolverines pulling it out at home 24-16 to improve to 5-0 (2-0) on the season.

_________________________________________________________________________________
#3 Louisville (4-0) at #5 Clemson (8:00 PM ET, on ABC, in Clemson, South Carolina)
UPSET

Line is set at: #3 Louisville (-2)

My pick: #5 Clemson defeats #3 Louisville 38-35

What to watch for: Clemson's offense.  I think this game will be pretty high scoring, so Clemson's ability to put a good amount of points on the board will be key, especially since on the other side of the ball, the defense faces the Heisman front runner in Lamar Jackson, and it will be tough to slow him and the Cards offense down.  So I think it will be important for the Clemson offense to score a lot, and I think they will accomplish that in a close win over the #3 ranked team in the nation.

My thoughts on this game; This is the first top 5 matchup of the season, and I think it will live up to its hype on the field.  Both Louisville and Clemson have things at stake, not only in the ACC, but also for the CFP, so I think both teams will come out prepared and motivated, but I see Clemson pulling out the close victory.

My Sneaky Good Game Of The Week
_________________________________________________________________________________
#18 Utah (4-0) at California (2-2) (6:00 PM ET, on PAC-12 Network, in Berkeley, California)

Line is set at: California (-2)

My pick: California defeats #18 Utah 42-38

What to watch for: Cal's offense.  Cal has a great offense, but their defense is a different story.  So vs #18 Utah, their offense will really have to play well, because I think the Utes will be able to put up a lot of points on them.  So with that being said, I do see Cal scoring enough to lift themselves over the top in this game.

My thoughts on this game: This football game is pretty under-the-radar, but I think it will be a good game, that goes down to the wire, in a Cal victory to improve them to 3-2 on the season.

                                                     UPSET OF THE WEEK
_________________________________________________________________________________
Wake Forest (4-0) at NC State (2-1) (3:30 PM ET, on ACC Network, in Raleigh, North Carolina)
UPSET

Line is set at: NC State (-10.5)

My pick: Wake Forest defeats NC State 20-17

What to watch for: Wake Forest's defense.  Wake Forest's defense has been pretty good so far this season, but this is probably their toughest test so far this season, and even though that's probably the case, I think they'll play well enough to pull off another win to stay undefeated.

My thoughts on this game; This game isn't getting very much, if any hype, and that makes sense considering there is so many other good games this weekend.  But if Wake Forest pulls this game out, they'll be 5-0 on the season, and that will be something nobody saw coming at the start of this season.

College Football Week 4 Picks/Predictions

After a week 4 filled with exciting games, we head into week 4 now where there will be still some very good matchups.  Here are my week 4 picks/predictions:

The lines are via Las Vegas SuperBook

______________________________________________________________________________
#12 Georgia at #23 Ole Miss (12:00 PM ET, on ESPN, in Oxford, Mississippi)

Line is set at: #12 Ole Miss (-7)

My pick: #23 Ole Miss defeats #12 Georgia 41-17

What to watch for: Ole Miss' offense.  After getting huge leads of FSU in week 1, and Alabama in week 3, the Ole Miss Rebels find themselves 1-2 on the season.  But in my opinion, Ole Miss is way better than their record says.  QB Chad Kelly is one of the best QBs in the country, and I just think him and his talented receivers will play great in this game, and complete the football all over the field for big yardage, and touchdowns, which I think will also open up the running game.

My thoughts on this game: This is a good game ranking wise, but on the field, I just think Ole Miss is ahead of Georgia as a team right now, and since they are at home, coming after a tough loss (which can always have a negative effect, but I see it having more of a positive effect in this game), I think the Rebels will win this game in impressive fashion.

______________________________________________________________________________
#11 Wisconsin (3-0) at #8 Michigan State (2-0) (12:00 PM ET, on BTN, in East Lansing, Michigan)

Line is set at: #8 Michigan State (-6)

My pick: #8 Michigan State defeats #11 Wisconsin 27-13

What to watch for: Michigan State's defense.  Michigan State's defense played great in most of last weekend's game at Notre Dame, but they did let the Irish get back into it late, in this game vs Wisconsin, I see their defense learning from those mistakes and playing a complete football game en route to a victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.

My thoughts on this game: This is the highest ranked matchup of this weekend, and yet it is not getting very much hype for a game that is between the #11 and #8 teams in the country.  But even though it isn't getting that much hype, I think the Spartans will make some what of a statement at home vs the Badgers.

______________________________________________________________________________
#19 Florida (3-0) at #14 Tennessee (3-0) (3:30 PM ET, on CBS, in Knoxville, Tennessee)
UPSET

Line is set at #14 Tennessee (-6.5)

My pick: #19 Florida defeats #14 Tennessee 20-16

What to watch for: Florida's defense.  The Gators' defense has played great so far this season with only giving up 7 total points, but those three games were against UMass, Kentucky, and North Texas.  If they want to play like that against Tennessee, they'll have to play much better.  With that being said, I think they will play much better in a victory over #14 Tennessee.

My thoughts on this game: This is a huge game for multiple reasons.  1. It could decide the SEC East.  2. Florida has won 11 straight games over Tennessee.  3. It could be the difference in whether Butch Jones stays at Tennessee or gets fired.  So with those three reasons alone it is a huge game, and I think it will go in Florida's favor.

______________________________________________________________________________
#7 Stanford (2-0) at UCLA (2-1) (8:00 PM ET, on ABC, in Pasadena, California
UPSET

Line is set at: #7 Stanford (-3)

My pick: UCLA defeats #7 Stanford 35-34

What to watch for: UCLA's offense.  UCLA's offense has the potential to be great this season, they just haven't showed it yet.  But, in this game I see the Bruins playing up to the potential they have at home vs a good Stanford defense, and I think starting QB Josh Rosen who many think could be a future NFL starting QB, will have a great game en route to an upset win over #7 Stanford.

My thoughts on this game: This game is another very important game that will be played this weekend, and I think it will be a very good game that goes down-to-the-wire that UCLA finds a way to pull out over a good Stanford team.

______________________________________________________________________________
#17 Arkansas (3-0) vs #10 Texas A&M (3-0) (9:00 PM ET, on ESPN, in Arlington, Texas)

Line is set at: #17 Texas A&M (-6)

My pick: #10 Texas A&M defeats #17 Arkansas 27-20

What to watch for: Texas A&M's pass rush.  The Aggies have one of the best pass rushers in college football with Myles Garrett, and although Arkansas QB Brandon Allen has done well so far this season, he hasn't faced a pass rush and defense like the Aggies' pass rush and defense.  So I see guys like Myles Garrett, Otaro Alaka, and Daeshon Hall, etc for Texas A&M causing disruption in the Razorbacks' backfield, and forcing problems on Arkansas that will help Texas A&M pull out a big victory over #17 Arkansas.

My thoughts on this game: This is one of the four ranked vs ranked matchups this week, and I think this one will live up to any of the good hype it is receiving.  I think this game will go down-to-the-wire just like how this matchup did last season, and two seasons ago, and I think the victor will be the same with Texas A&M winning.

My Sneaky Good Game Of The Week
______________________________________________________________________________
#5 Clemson (3-0) at Georgia Tech (3-0) (7:30 PM ET, on ESPN, in Atlanta, Georgia) THURSDAY
                                                   UPSET WATCH

Line is set at: #5 Clemson (-9)

My pick: #5 Clemson defeats Georgia Tech 34-27

What to watch for: Clemson's offense.  Clemson's offense hasn't played great so far this season, but they'll need to scoring some more points on the road at Georgia Tech, because if they don't, it could mean trouble for the Tigers.  Clemson heads into this game at #5 in the nation, and this could be a trap game for them because they are on the road, on a Thursday night, and they play #3 Louisville next weekend.  So this game won't be easy for Clemson, but I think their offense led by QB DeShaun Watson will play well enough on the road in a hostile environment to get the win.

My thoughts on this game: There is a history with top 5 teams playing Thursday night games on the road, especially when they are in conference, and although I see this game being very close, I think that Clemson with their experience on offense, will be able to snap their 5 game road losing streak vs Georgia Tech to improve to 4-0.

UPSET OF THE WEEK
______________________________________________________________________________
Oklahoma State (2-1) at #16 Baylor (3-0) (7:30 PM ET, on FOX, in Waco, Texas)
UPSET

Line is set at: #16 Baylor (-9.5)

My pick: Oklahoma State defeats #16 Baylor 38-35

What to watch out for: Oklahoma State's offense.  The Cowboys' offense has played good so far this season, but if they want to pull off the upset on the road they'll probably have to keep it up or play even better, because of Baylor's defensive ability, as well as their offensive ability.  I think this game will be close, but I see the Cowboys' offense playing well enough to pull out the victory on the road.

My thoughts on this game: This game is a very important game for the Big 12, because the Big 12 (with a Baylor loss) could have only one undefeated Big 12 team, and with an Oklahoma State loss another team from the Big 12 would be virtually eliminated from the CFP, so because of those reasons, and others this game has importance.  In terms of the way I think the game will go on the field, I think it will be another close game, but unlike Oklahoma State "losing" to Central Michigan, and more like Oklahoma State defeating Pitt last week, I see Oklahoma State pulling out the narrow victory over the #16 Bears.

My College Football Week 3 Picks/Predictions

After a surprisingly good week 2 of college football, we head into week 3 which is filled with great games and story lines.  Here are my week 3 college football picks:

_______________________________________________________________________________
#6 Houston (2-0) at Cincinnati (2-0) (7:30 PM ET, on ESPN, in Cincinnati, Ohio)
                                       THURSDAY  |  UPSET WATCH

My pick: #6 Houston defeats Cincinnati 38-33

What to watch for: Houston's offense.  Houston's offense can create all types of problems for defenses, and I don't think it will be too much different in this game.  I think Cincinnati will give Houston a good game, but I think Greg Ward Jr. along with the rest of his talented offense will be too much for the Bearcats to handle in a close game.

My thoughts on this game: I feel like this game could be a trap game for Houston, because they will be on the road on a Thursday night vs a pretty good team, and Greg Ward Jr. is recovering some from a shoulder injury, but like I just wrote, I think Houston's offense, and talent will be enough to get the Cougars out with the win.

 _______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________
#2 Florida State at #10 Louisville (12:00 PM ET, on ABC, in Louisville, Kentucky)
UPSET

My pick: #10 Louisville defeats #2 Florida State 31-27

What to watch for: Louisville's QB play.  Lamar Jackson has a good chance of being in NYC at the end of this season for the Heisman ceremony, he has already scored 13 total touchdowns in just two games, and even though those two games were vs Charlotte and Syracuse, he has the ability (especially with the help of his teammates playing well) to do it vs better teams, and I think Florida State who is currently the #2 team in the nation will be upset mainly because of that.

My thoughts on this game: This is ranking-wise the best game of the week, and it will have a huge impact nationally, and in the conference, I see this game living up to any hype it is receiving.  Both FSU and Louisville are very good teams, and I think they will have a close game down-to-the-wire, but I see the Cardinals pulling it out.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________
#1 Alabama (2-0) at #19 Ole Miss (1-1) (3:30 PM ET, on CBS, in Oxford, Mississippi)

My pick: #1 Alabama defeats #19 Ole Miss 34-17

What to watch for: Alabama's defense.  The Tide's defense is one of the best defense's if not the best defense in the nation, and even though they are going to go up against a good Rebels' offense, I feel that the Tide's defense will be able to force Chad Kelly, and his offense into making mistakes, and into struggling enough for the Tide to roll over the Rebels.

My thoughts on this game: This game is a huge game for both teams, not only for the SEC, but nationally, and because of what happen the past two seasons.  Bama has fallen to the Rebels the last two seasons, so you better believe that the Tide doesn't want it to become three, and you also better believe that Ole Miss does.  I think in the end, Bama will get their redemption and defeat Ole Miss to improve to 3-0 and remain #1 in the nation.

_______________________________________________________________________________
#12 Michigan State (1-0) at #18 Notre Dame (1-1) (7:30 PM ET, on NBC, in South Bend, Indiana
UPSET

My pick: #18 Notre Dame defeats #12 Michigan State 31-20

What to watch for: Notre Dame's QB play.  Notre Dame had a QB battle at the beginning of the season when they played Texas, but that battle seems to be getting solved with DeShone Kizer likely starting.  It will be very important for the Fighting Irish's QB to play well, because ND's season hangs in the balance, and with a loss, their playoff hopes are probably crushed.  But, I think that Kizer and his teammates will play well, and get the huge victory at home over the Spartans.

My thoughts on this game: This football game is one of the four ranked-vs-ranked matchups this week, and it will obviously be huge for both of these teams.  I think that Notre Dame will come out prepared, and motivated because their back is up against the wall, and I think they will play well enough to win in the end vs a good Michigan State team.

_______________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________
USC (1-1) at #7 Stanford (1-0) (7:00 PM ET, on ABC, in Stanford, California)

My pick: #7 Stanford defeats USC 38-24

What to watch for: Christian McCaffrey's play.  Christian McCaffrey is one of the best players in college football, and for Stanford he could be the difference in whether they win or lose games.  In this game I think that USC will play better than they did vs Alabama, so I think McCaffrey's play will be very important, and I think he (with the help of his teammates obviously) will play well enough to get the victory over the Trojans to improve to 2-0 on the season.

My thoughts on this game: This game is a very interesting game, because we don't really know how good Stanford is, and USC has talent, but they got crushed by Alabama.  I think that Stanford will win this game, but that USC will hang around for awhile to make it interesting.

UPSET OF THE WEEK

_______________________________________________________________________________
#3 Ohio State (2-0) at #14 Oklahoma (1-1) (7:30 PM ET, on FOX, in Norman, Oklahoma)
UPSET

My pick: #14 Oklahoma defeats #3 Ohio State 34-27

What to watch for: Oklahoma's offense.  Oklahoma's offense is very good, and even though they struggled vs Houston, they have the talent to put up big numbers on the scoreboard.  I think Ohio State will be a challenge for them because of their talent, and coaching, but the Buckeyes only return three starters off of their defense from last season, and I think with the Sooners' talent and experience, they will be able to lift their team over the top to improve to 2-1 and keep their season alive.

My thoughts on this game: This is another huge game in a week filled of them.  I think that this game will do more than live up to the hype, I think that it will go down-to-the wire in a game I see Oklahoma pulling out to keep their playoff hopes alive.

My Sneaky Good Game Of The Week
_______________________________________________________________________________
#22 Oregon (2-0) at Nebraska (2-0) (3:30 PM ET, on ABC, in Lincoln, Nebraska)
UPSET

My pick: Nebraska defeats #22 Oregon 38-35

What to watch for: Nebraska's offense.  The Cornhuskers return eight offensive starters from last season's team, including starting QB Tommy Armstrong Jr., and Oregon only returns five on defense, so Nebraska will have more experience vs a younger Ducks defense, who I think will be iffy this season, and I think that the more experienced Nebraska offense will have their way vs the young Ducks defense en route to a close win.

My thoughts on this game: Because of all the good games this weekend, this game probably gets lost in the shuffle, but it is a very good game between two teams that could be dark horses for the college football playoff, and I think in terms of the game on the field, it will be close, exciting, high scoring, and I think it will end well for the Cornhuskers at home in Lincoln.

UCLA at BYU
#11 Texas at California

College Football Week 2 Picks/Predictions

After a first great week of the college football season, we head into week 2 where we find out a little more about some teams.  Here are my week 2 picks/predictions:

___________________________________________________________________________________
#13 Louisville (1-0) at Syracuse (1-0) (8:00 PM ET, on ESPN2, in Syracuse, New York) FRIDAY

My pick: #13 Louisville defeats Syracuse 34-20

What to watch for: Louisville's QB play.  Lamar Jackson could be a Heisman candidate at this season's end, and he started it off well with scoring 8 touchdowns vs Charlotte in week 1, but now he faces a tougher challenge in Syracuse, and although Syracuse isn't predicted to be great this season, they could still give the Cardinals some problems at home, but I think Lamar Jackson and company will be too much trouble for the Orange.

My thoughts on this matchup: It's the first ACC game for both of these teams this season, and I think it will probably be closer than maybe most may think, but I think Louisville will be too explosive in the end.

___________________________________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________________________
Virginia Tech (1-0) vs #17 Tennessee (1-0) (8:00 PM ET, on ABC, in Bristol, Tennessee)

My pick: #17 Tennessee defeats Virginia Tech 34-19

What to watch for: Tennessee's offense.  The Vols offense did not play well at all vs Appalachian State, and everybody who knows football knows that Tennessee has to play better vs the Hokies if they want to win this football game.  I think that Tennessee will come out with a better game plan, and execute it better, and I see them ending up 2-0 at the end of the day.

My thoughts on this matchup: This game is a very interesting game because of where they are playing it at, the race track that will hold the game is Bristol Motor Speedway, and it can hold about 150,000 people in attendance, and with that it will be interesting to see how both teams (but mainly VT because this game is in TN) will react to the noise.  I see the Vols coming away with the big win when it is all said and done.

___________________________________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________________________
Kentucky (0-1) at Florida (1-0) (3:30 PM ET, on CBS, in Gainesville, Florida)

My pick: Florida defeats Kentucky 31-17

What to watch for: Florida's passing game.  This is the first conference game for starting QB Luke Del Rio, and this could be a huge boost in his confidence, and the teams confidence if he and the team can go out and play well.  I think that even though Kentucky is coming off of a bad loss to Southern Miss, they'll be giving the Gators a test, but I see Florida, behind QB Luke Del Rio playing well
enough to get a victory in the Swamp.

My thoughts on this matchup: This is the second SEC conference game of this season, and it will be interesting to see how both of these teams play this week, considering that Kentucky lost to Southern Miss last week, and Florida struggled a little bit with UMass in their 24-7 win.  I see Kentucky giving Florida a fight, but I think the Gators will win in the end.

My Sneaky Good Game Of The Week

___________________________________________________________________________________
Penn State (1-0) at Pittsburgh (1-0) (12:00 PM ET, on ESPN, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

My pick: Pitt defeats Penn State 30-27

What to watch for: Pitt's offense.  Nate Peterman who was a former Vol QB now plays for Pitt, and he play well last week, but it was against an inferior opponent in Villanova.  This week, however, he'll face a tougher defense when he plays Penn State, and I think with the help of RB James Conner, and talented WR's on the outside, they'll be able to pull out the victory over the Nittany Lions.

My thoughts on this matchup: These two teams have a history between each other, but haven't played since 2000, this year though, the rivalry between these two schools from the state of Pennsylvania will be renewed, and mainly because of that, I decided to add this game on here.  In terms of the game, I think it'll be a close down-to-the-wire game with the Panthers winning.

                                               UPSET OF THE WEEK
___________________________________________________________________________________
Arkansas (1-0) at #15 TCU (1-0) (7:00 PM ET, on ESPN, in Fort Worth, Texas) UPSET

My pick: Arkansas defeats #15 TCU 28-24

What to watch for: Arkansas' passing game.  Last season Brandon Allen played great for the Razorbacks at QB, but he's graduated from the school, so his younger brother Austin Allen has stepped in, and in his only game so far he played pretty well, but they still almost lost to Louisiana Tech at home.  So if he wants to lead his team to a win over #15 TCU, I think he, and the whole team will have to play better, and I think they will enough to pull out the victory over the 15th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs.

My thoughts on this matchup: This game is one of the best games of the weekend, and although this weekend may not look good on paper, I think we'll have some good games, and this game will be one of those games, with Arkansas winning a tight one.
